All the Buzz

The Story, so far...

The Buzz Tour Company was founded in 2018, when owner and founder, Christine Dainard discovered her love for local.

The buzz began on a summer weekend in 2017 when Christine took a drive to Norfolk County to meet up with a friend. At the time she was seeking a life change and keeping her mind open to ideas about what was next for her. She was taken back by the beauty of the area, and gobsmacked with the abundance of wineries and agriculture in this county just over an hour from the Waterloo Region.

At that time, Christine wasn't familiar with the wineries and breweries that were emerging there, but quickly became familiar as she made her way from one to the next. She began building relationships, and making plans to help others discover the enchantment of this place - making a business plan to begin taking groups for day trips to explore the area with her. With humble beginnings, Christine began taking tour groups of 4-6 in the original buzzmobile - a Honda Odyssey. You see, she quickly realized that her big plans to help attract attention to this remarkable place would mean taking time to help people become familiar with it, and that wasn't going to happen overnight.

By 2019 the buzz had spread, and Christine partnered with a local bus company to regularly offer larger group experiences for up to 20 guests. By the end of 2019, the buzz had grown from taking roughly 250 guests in the first year, to more than tripling her efforts in 2019.  As early 2020 began, Christine had big plans to continue to grow her small business. The plan was to acquire two 9 passenger vehicles, maintain and grow her charter bus partnerships, and hire a team!

Christine was getting close to signing on her mini fleet at the beginning of March 2020, when we were hit with the pandemic. Just like you, she thought it would be a short pause before getting her plans back on track...but alas, you know the end of that story.

Christine did whatever she could to keep up spirits and support small businesses. She began to host virtual events, looping in other local small business partners to offer food, drink and other fun events - all hosted in a zoom room. Further along when it was clear there was no end in sight, Christine began hosting 'Cocktails with Christine'. A fun and engaging cocktail hour hosted on her Instagram channel every Friday night. This went on for weeks, and then months. Somewhere along the line, she began offering her virtual cocktail-making parties for private birthdays, team building and holiday celebrations.

Little did she know that her tenacious efforts to keep people connected and support local, would attract some interest from her local tourism outfit - Explore Waterloo Region. Soon after, Christine became a social media ambassador on behalf of @explorewr, and regularly showed up to share about local establishments her followers could support during the pandemic. She introduced people to places, spaces, makers and more to shed light on the support that small businesses needed to survive this time. Over the course of 16 months, Christine began to recognize the many local small businesses that would need continued support post-pandemic, and she began pulling together ideas to create local Waterloo Region (and beyond) experiences.

Today, the Buzz Tour Company continues to offer experiences to discover Norfolk County's emerging wine scene, and has added Waterloo Region experiences to explore local food and drink creators, while also continuing to offer in-person (and virtual when necessary) cocktail-making parties at homes and workplaces across the region. She has developed a small team of tour guides that embody a similar energy and a love for local and small batch producers.
